Reuse and Recycling Event (October 15)

Saturday October 15, 2016, 1:00 – 5:00 PM

Rainy days and time for fall decluttering!

Bring your donations for Goodwill and those Styrofoam chunks and peanuts, and even bubble-wrap and shrink-wrap to this collection event sponsored by the Wallingford Community Council.

It all happens on Saturday, October 15 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM in the parking lot of Seattle First Church of the Nazarene (just south of Dick’s Drive-In on NE 45th Street). Enter on 2nd Ave NE between NE 44th and 45th Streets.

Here are the guidelines for donations to Goodwill:
http://seattlegoodwill.org/donate/donate-items/donation-guidelines

Due to space constraints in the Goodwill truck, no furniture larger than a coffee table will be accepted, nor any non-flat screen TVs larger than 19″. Flat screen TVs of any size will be accepted.

All of these items will be accepted by Styro Recycle:

A huge thank you to Seattle First Church of the Nazarene for making their parking lot available for this event. Your donations support the Wallingford Community Council’s participation in Waste Management’s THINK GREEN Reuse and Recycling Challenge.

Living Building Program at risk in Public Hearing (September 20)

Tuesday, September 20, 2016, 9:30 – 11:30 AM

The City Council’s Planning, Land Use and Zoning (PLUZ) Committee will hold a Public Hearing to take comments on the Mayor’s proposed amendments to the Living Building Pilot Program. The hearing will be held in the City Council Chambers at City Hall: 600 Fourth Avenue, 2nd Floor, Seattle, WA 98104.

The Mayor’s proposal would undermine the intent of the Living Building Pilot Program to encourage the development of sustainable “green” buildings. Consider the List of Concerns below excerpted from comments by WCC member Lee Raaen on September 8 and September 14. If you can attend and make public comment, please do so! We expect each person to get two minutes or less to testify. It helps to prepare and to keep your comments clear and focused. You can also write all the City Council members with the addresses at Contacting City Officials before the hearing.
