Community Meeting about Lincoln High School (October 27)

Seattle Public Schools invites parents and neighbors to join Director Burke and SPS staff for a community listening meeting about Lincoln High School, scheduled for opening in the fall of 2019. We have exciting plans for the site renovation and restoration, but the academic programming and student assignment plans are still developing. Come and share your concerns and ideas to help make Lincoln’s opening a successful start for a vibrant school. Representatives from Teaching and learning, International Education, Enrollment, Capital Projects, Bassetti Architects, and the School Design Advisory Team (SDAT) are expected to be present.

Zoning Changes for the Wallingford Urban Village

The City has released maps of the draft zoning changes for Urban Villages. Each map shows possible zoning changes necessary to implement Mandatory Housing Affordability (MHA) in a specific neighborhood. Maps for Wallingford and Fremont are available on the WallHALA page.

Street and Shoreline Clean-up (October 23)

Sunday October 23, 2016, 10 AM – 1 PM

Come join Friends of North Lake Union (FONLU) to help pick up trash and remove weeds from waterway 22. After the recent storm, there will be lots of debris to pick up. The event will begin at the intersection of Stone Way N and N Northlake Way in front of Waterway 22. The clean up will cover N Northlake Way from Waterway 22 to Waterway 20 located next to Gasworks Park. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided, and they will celebrate afterward at the Fremont Brewery.

Tell City Council – send it back! (today October 17)

City Council is voting today, Monday, October 17 at 2:00 PM!

The Seattle City Council is poised to pass the Seattle 2035 Comprehensive Plan update on October 17 that will:

  • TAKE AWAY YOUR VOICE
  • TAKE AWAY TREES
  • TAKE AWAY PARKING
  • TAKE AWAY SINGLE FAMILY ZONES

Don’t let them do this! The devil is in the details. Read about it here: Seattle 2035 List of Concerns and here: Worst of the 2035 Comprehensive Plan, and let all of City Council know: Don’t pass it, fix it! Rework the Seattle 2035 Comprehensive Plan!

Please CALL, WRITE, and VISIT all nine city council members now and demand no action on the proposed Seattle 2035 Comprehensive Plan until it is amended to include:

  • Requirements for neighborhood outreach & involvement
  • Development of adequate transportation, parks & open space, schools, and utilities concurrent with increased residential density
  • Protections & preservation of existing trees
  • Parking requirements for new development
  • Stable urban village boundaries
  • Protections & preservation of Single Family Zoning

Tell City Council that you want infrastructure investment to be concurrent with growth. We want to grow a livable city. Tell City Council Do Not Pass the Seattle 2035 Comprehensive Plan in its current form. Send it Back!

Reuse and Recycling Event (October 15)

Saturday October 15, 2016, 1:00 – 5:00 PM

Rainy days and time for fall decluttering!

Bring your donations for Goodwill and those Styrofoam chunks and peanuts, and even bubble-wrap and shrink-wrap to this collection event sponsored by the Wallingford Community Council.

It all happens on Saturday, October 15 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM in the parking lot of Seattle First Church of the Nazarene (just south of Dick’s Drive-In on NE 45th Street). Enter on 2nd Ave NE between NE 44th and 45th Streets.

Due to space constraints in the Goodwill truck, no furniture larger than a coffee table will be accepted, nor any non-flat screen TVs larger than 19″. Flat screen TVs of any size will be accepted.
